CHARLOTTE, VT—Dr. Elizabeth Hunt, pediatrician and Vermont State Senate candidate for Chittenden County Southeast, is running on a clear and urgent mission: fix Vermont's broken health-care system with practical solutions that work for every Vermonter.

 

"We've had years of misguided, piecemeal efforts," said Dr. Hunt. "We need to break free from the status quo. I have the practical and procedural knowledge to change how we do things in Vermont—and to do it now."

 

Dr. Hunt's Health Care Priorities:

 

• Expand primary care access to reduce costly emergency room and hospital visits.

 

• Utilize the Rural Health Transformation Program and other initiatives across the education/labor and health care spectra to create permanent worker pathways from middle and high school into health care careers, including dental hygienists, nurses, medical assistants, and social workers.

 

• Integrate disparate efforts to bring state government and provider groups together as a team to tackle high insurance costs, as well as administrative and regulatory burdens.

 

These solutions will reduce health care costs—with positive impacts on school budgets, housing insecurity, and economic stability across Vermont.

 

Dr. Hunt continues practicing as a pediatrician while actively engaging communities throughout Chittenden County, meeting integral members of our community such as firefighters, supporting organizations addressing critical needs like COTS, and honoring the bravest of our neighbors at events such as Memorial Day observances.

CHARLOTTE, VT—Dr. Elizabeth Hunt of Charlotte has officially announced her candidacy for the Vermont State Senate in the Chittenden Southeast District for the 2026 election.

 

Dr. Hunt, 52, is a mother of three children in the public school system and an independent primary care physician practicing in South Burlington. Over the course of her career, she has cared for thousands of Vermont families while contributing to statewide efforts to strengthen primary care, improve health care delivery, and support long‑term investment in communities as a child advocate and public health champion.

“As a working physician, I see firsthand the challenges Vermonters face every day,” Hunt said. “Having someone at the policy table who understands the realities of our health care system—and the broader economic pressures on families—is essential.”

Hunt believes Vermont’s citizen legislature is strengthened when professionals from diverse fields bring their lived experience to policymaking. She plans to focus on practical, forward‑looking solutions to reduce health care costs, expand access, and address the interconnected issues of housing, education, and economic stability. Her work with a wide cross‑section of Chittenden County residents gives her a grounded perspective on the needs of local communities.
