I support responsible firearm ownership. Expanding hunting and increasing permits will help sustain our natural heritage. Conservation thrives when hunters, land stewards, and wildlife experts work together. 

 

We should invest in young people and outdoor enthusiasts, and integrate natural‑resource education into schools so students understand the ecological relationship between hunters, flora, and fauna. I also support recreational shooting at gun clubs. Many firearm owners benefit from the focus and community it provides. Clubs already manage safety; they could also serve as secure storage sites to reduce risks at home.

However, I do not support concealed carry for citizens in Vermont. Too many accidents, homicides, and suicides stem from firearms kept in homes with unsafe storage. As a public official and mandated reporter, I hear far too often about dangerous access to loaded guns and ammunition. We are one bad day away from a mass‑casualty event, driven by a mix of factors including mental health challenges and exposure to violent media.

I grew up with firearms at home and to this day have hunting rifles and shotguns in my home. I know that we can uphold the rights of responsible gun owners while protecting the public from preventable harm.
